Originally from Indianapolis, Jared Kassebaum charms audiences with his unique blend of naïve storytelling, witty wordplay, and occasional song on a child’s toy keyboard. He’s convinced that makes the songs funnier, even if the venue has a nice piano. A big fan of his PhD biochemist father, Jared planned to be a scientist his whole life. After going to a university with the aim to get a PhD in physics, he experienced the sudden loss of a best friend and realized he didn’t want to take measurements in a lab anymore. His brand of earnest jokes reflects this, through both his desire to wonder at the ridiculousness of life and his scientific dissection of language. Now he performs nationally at clubs and festivals, but his grandma somehow always seems to get a headache before any shows near her.
